Where Credit Is Due... Running a full time guide service (a single-person operation for me) can be a daunting task, and requires me to personally handle all aspects of my business. Advertising, book-keeping, supply-ordering and maintenance are some of the things I must do on a daily basis. For over 13 years, I’ve relied on certain products and services to make the most of my time and labor, and they’ve helped make Gadabout Golder Guide Service a long-lived and successful operation.

Visiting the Lake For the traveler wishing to visit the Lakes Region, start with the local chambers of commerce. Visit the Wolfeboro Chamber for information about the "Oldest Summer Resort in America". For those wishing a little more excitement in their vacation, the Laconia/Weirs Beach Chamber can answer most of your questions. On the other end of the lake, you may visit the many new shops and inns of Meredith.

Local Weather New England weather can be unpredictable, so visit The Black Cat Weather Center for the current forecast and conditions. You may also check the Angling Adventures Weather Page for fishing-related weather information.

Local News Go to the Grunter (the Granite State News), the source for local news.

Equipment I have an iMac to take care of all my computing needs on land, but my real office--my boat--is equipped with a different set of tools. Since 1985 I’ve been floating a Lund boat, in my opinion the finest multi-species fishing boat built in America. Whether trolling for salmon on Lake Winnipesaukee, tossing spinners for northern pike and walleyes on the Connecticut River or flinging flies for smallmouth bass, my Lund Pro-V 1775 handles all the situations a guide requires. With a well-designed deep "V" hull, she comes alive when the water comes up on "Winni." The wide, plywood-reinforced gunwales made installing my Walker Downriggers a snap, and there’s still room to install 6 flush mounts for my Robert's rod holders. When salmon season slows, I remove the downriggers and Walker swivel bases, and end up with a half-inch plate on the gunwale that doesn’t interfere with boarding or casting.

Boat Computer My computer on the lake is a Lowrance X85. It gives me the information I need to get my clients on to fish with out wasting valuable fishing time.

Motors Powering the 1775 is a 150 horse Suzuki. Though it gets me to hot spots in a hurry, I spend more time running my Minn Kota trolling motor. It's a model 824, gives 48 pounds of thrust, and is powered by 2 Excide 27 series deep cycle batteries. The Minn Kota Auto pilot feature is like having a first mate. For an added measure of safety I installed Wave Whacker splash guards.
